Famous Sonnet #3
How stone dead inside do you have to be
To attack someone you have never met?
To taunt her and inform her needlessly:
"Unrequited." There are far worse crimes, yet
It is just this cruelty that is meant
By the phrase "banality of evil."
Ganging up to torment the outsider
Is the everyday work of the Devil.
They attack because they can - bored and mean
And Instigator has been hint-dropping -
That is her way - to keep her own hands clean -
Her relentless evil is heart-stopping.
Her minions' souls have died and been entombed
Humanity has been banally doomed.
